It’s that nerve-wracking time of the year again. We, at the LSE Fashion Society know how exciting but also stressful finding everyone around you the perfect gift can be ! But no need to worry, we got you covered so that you can surprise your friends and family with thoughtful presents. This year however, more than ever before, we want to focus on sustainable, meaningful gifts and make sure we are staying away from fast fashion as much as possible. Moreover, we really encourage you to show some love to small businesses this winter and to avoid shopping from platforms such as Amazon when possible đŸ™‚

 1. Re-usable bottle/ coffee cup

I know that one might be a bit basic but trust me it will come in handy. The amount of plastic wasted everyday due to the consumption of water bottles is astonishing and if such a tiny gesture can help the planet why not try and make change to our daily habits ?

2. A cute pair of basic sneakers

Some days we just need  practical and comfortable shoes that go with everything. Bonus point, French label Veja produces environmentally-friendly footwear made out of materials such as recyled bottles.

3. Pretty re-usable masks

Granted that one is a bit boring but sadly corona won’t be going anywhere during the holidays so we might as well keep stylish while being protected.

4. Winter accessories

We all know it, the London winter can hit really hard and trust me your giftee will be grateful for that scarf and beanie when the time to go back to work/school finally comes.

100% upcycled scarf, 32 GBP, nuinfashion

5. For the one who doesn’t want anything : plant a tree in their name

This is a really cool initiative and also a cheap alternative ideal for that person who already has it all, or as a little extra to any present (onetreeplanted.org).

6. For the fashion intellectual : Fashion, the definitive visual guide

This is a literal bible for anyone with an interest in the fashion industry. It covers it all : trends, history, designer biographies and much more. Think about getting from your local bookshop rather than ordering it online đŸ™‚

7. For your busy, stressed-out friend : a 5-minute journal

In these uncertain times we should all dedicate a bit of time everyday to reflect and be mindful. However, when your timetable is full to the brim, it can be hard to implement that kind of routines everyday. Journals like this one offer the perfect opportunity to stop and reflect for a short moment everyday.

8. For the Londoner : plants

Especially in Winter, it can be rare to find greenery in London. A little book on how to take care of the plant can be a nice addition too !

9. For the shopping addict : gift card to a sustainable brand/ fashion rental service !

Sustainable fashion brands can often come at a higher price point so that can also be a great idea for a group present. Some of my favourites include House of Sunny and Organic Basics . And why not try a Fashion Rental service such as Byrotation ?

Of course no need to follow this gift guide religiously but I hope this still gave you some inspiration… And whatever you choose to give this year, try and favor useful, sustainable items from smaller businesses or ethical/ecological labels !
